Super Res Zoom: The Pixel 7 Pro supports up to 30× Super Res Zoom (up from 20× on the Pixel 6 Pro), using Tensor G2's AI upscaling. The 10.8MP telephoto sensor means quality drops off faster than newer Pixels at extreme zoom levels, but 5–10× remains very usable.

Key Features

What sets the Pixel 7 Pro apart — Google's computational photography excellence

Photo Unblur

Tensor G2 machine learning sharpens detail and reduces motion blur on any photo in Google Photos, even shots from other cameras.

New in Pixel 7

Macro Focus

The first Pixel with Macro Focus, using the ultra-wide camera's autofocus to capture close-ups at about 3cm and switching to macro automatically.

New in Pixel 7 Pro

30× Super Res Zoom

Tensor G2 AI upscaling pushes the 5× optical telephoto to 30× Super Res Zoom, up from the Pixel 6 Pro's 20× maximum.

Improved

Night Sight + Astrophotography

Tensor G2 brightens low-light shots, and on a tripod Astrophotography mode captures stars, the Milky Way, and star trails with exposures up to 4 minutes.

Pro Tips & Gotchas

Pixel 7 Pro-specific tips to get the most out of your camera

Night Sight & Astrophotography

  • Night Sight kicks in automatically in low light, shown by the moon icon
  • On a tripod, wait for the star icon to trigger Astrophotography
  • Astrophotography needs the phone perfectly still for 1 to 4 minutes

Photo Unblur & Editing

  • Photo Unblur works on any Google Photos image, not just Pixel shots
  • Open a photo, then Edit → Tools → Photo Unblur to sharpen it
  • It handles moderate blur best, not extreme camera shake
  • Magic Eraser removes unwanted objects and distractions

Macro Focus Tips

  • The ultrawide auto-switches to Macro Focus at about 3cm
  • At 12MP, macro shots show less detail than newer 48MP ultrawide Pixels
  • Light it well, since the phone casts shadows up close
  • Tap the viewfinder to lock focus exactly where you want

Zoom Strategy

  • 0.5×, 1×, 2×, 5×, and 10× are the sharpest zoom stops
  • The 10.8MP telephoto makes 10× the practical limit
  • Super Res Zoom reaches 30× but is heavily AI-processed above 15×

Computational Photography

  • Real Tone ensures accurate, inclusive skin tone representation for all people
  • HDR+ Enhanced merges multiple frames for high dynamic range scenes
  • Top Shot recommends the best frame from a burst, so check its pick
  • Face Unblur keeps faces sharp even when there's motion in low light

Battery & Storage

  • 4K 30fps runs about 2 to 2.5 hours of continuous recording
  • 4K 60fps drains battery about 40% faster than 4K 30fps
  • Use Google Photos backup to offload originals and free up storage
  • RAW+JPEG doubles storage use per photo, so enable it selectively

Worth the upgrade? Macro Focus and Photo Unblur are genuinely useful new capabilities. The extended 30× Super Res Zoom is nice but limited by the 10.8MP telephoto sensor. Improved Night Sight and Face Unblur via Tensor G2 deliver noticeably better low-light results. The biggest camera leap came with the Pixel 8 Pro's 48MP telephoto.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Google Pixel 7 Pro camera

What is Photo Unblur on the Pixel 7 Pro?

Photo Unblur is a Google Photos feature powered by the Tensor G2 chip that can sharpen old blurry photos — from any camera, not just the Pixel. It uses machine learning to reconstruct detail and reduce motion blur. Open any photo in Google Photos, tap Edit, then Tools, and select Photo Unblur. Results vary depending on the severity of the blur, but it can rescue moderately blurry images quite effectively.

Does the Pixel 7 Pro have Macro Focus?

Yes — the Pixel 7 Pro is the first Pixel phone with Macro Focus. It uses the 12MP ultra-wide camera's autofocus system to focus on subjects at approximately 3cm distance. When you move the phone close to a subject, the camera automatically switches from the main camera to the ultra-wide for macro photography. This was not available on the Pixel 6 Pro. Note that the 12MP sensor means less detail than the 48MP ultrawide macro on the Pixel 8 Pro and newer.

How far can the Pixel 7 Pro zoom?

The Pixel 7 Pro offers 5× optical zoom via its dedicated telephoto lens (120mm, 10.8MP) and extends to 30× digital zoom using Google's Super Res Zoom AI upscaling. Quality is good up to about 10×, usable at 15×, and heavily processed beyond that. The 30× maximum was a significant improvement over the Pixel 6 Pro's 20× limit. For best results, stick to 5× or 10× zoom levels.

Can the Pixel 7 Pro shoot Astrophotography?

Yes. When you mount the Pixel 7 Pro on a tripod in very dark conditions and open Night Sight, Astrophotography mode activates automatically — indicated by a small star icon appearing in the viewfinder. The phone then captures a series of long exposures over 1–4 minutes and merges them to reveal stars, the Milky Way, and even star trails. The phone must be perfectly still on a stable mount for the entire exposure. Any movement will ruin the capture.

What is Real Tone on the Pixel 7 Pro?

Real Tone is Google's camera and image processing technology designed to accurately represent all skin tones in photos. It adjusts auto white balance, auto exposure, and face detection algorithms to produce more accurate and natural-looking skin tones, especially for people with darker skin. Real Tone is always active in both the camera app and Google Photos editing tools. It was developed with input from professional image makers across diverse communities.
