Macro lens
$$$True 1:1 (life-size on the sensor) is what “macro” means. Close-up filters and the kit zoom’s “macro” mode get you partway; a dedicated 90–105mm macro lets you light the subject and still have working distance.
What to look for: 1:1 magnification, around 90–105mm, a tripod collar is a plus. Food and product often live at 1:2–1:4, so this lens still earns its keep as a portrait-ish short tele.
Skip it if: you only need slightly closer product shots — try extension tubes on a lens you own before buying a macro.
